Is there any need for a new audio format? …
Is there any need for a new codec? …
Is there any need to duplicate the physical album experience into the digital era? …

I am afraid … NOT. Weird statement coming from the CEO of mxp4? maybe not…
Debates should be more and more focused – again and again – on the music experience: how consumers enjoy their preferred music, how consumers make it their own, how consumers share it with friends, how music fits to your mood … how consumers play with it.
iTunes is great because it is simple, user friendly, exciting and more and more personal. Who cares about the format behind? Format is a disposable item because of a very low perceived value.
Apple LP is an interesting development,
but the concept cleaves to the idea of the album as an artifact that
still has resonance today, when new solution like MXP4 – and even
the iPhone – is completely shifting the idea of how a collection of
music can be consumed. It’s quite a passive experience — look at
photos and videos, read lyrics – when a lot consumers are looking for
much more engagement and interactivity.

Premium packages on distribution platform apparently outsells classic ones.
Interesting data! This is what I have done for most of the recent albums I bought (The Last one being Muse …).
Having said that, I cannot remember the PDF file which was downloaded at the same time. Am I supposed to print it on a very nice paper? back to the old days :) !
Exciting time isn’t it?

9th September 2009: MXP4 announced that over 40 artists are now using MXP4’s interactive digital music solution to power interactive singles.  MXP4’s solution is designed to reinvent the single and album experiences by allowing fans to interact with songs and play with the music.

MXP4’s solution is designed to work stand alone or potentially with new interactive digital album formats such as Apple’s Cocktail or the CMX format music labels are reportedly working on.  MXP4 allows fans to play with remixes of their songs (REMIX IT), sing along to the tracks (SING IT), strip down the song to listen to different instruments (MIX-IT) or listen to a brand new generation of digital Maxi Singles (Max It). Artists using MXP4 solutions to create interactive ‘single’ experiences include:
