Bopler Games lets fans “Play with Hits,” combining their choice of game and song on the fly to score points, earn badges and compete with friends
Bopler Games has negotiated agreements with four of the eight major music publishers and labels, with more to be announced

MXP4, the leading social music gaming company, announced today the beta launch of Bopler Games, the world’s first social music gaming application for Facebook. Bopler Games is the first application that enables users to create an original social music gaming experience combining the game of their choice with their selection of song from a large catalogue of licensed music. Players can challenge friends and send music gaming gifts across the social networking site.

Bopler Games launches with four music games, including the popular PUMP IT! and new games Space It!, Match It! and Snake It! The beta launches with music from artists including Kt Tunstall, Lilly Allen, Digital Underground, Afrika Bambaataa, Culture Club, Big Country, Jonas Brothers and Fall Out Boy, a catalogue that is set to expand rapidly.

Bopler Games is built on MXP4’s patent-pending Automated Level Design (ALD) technology that automatically analyses a song and extracts data based on its rhythm, melody and song structure. ALD enables any song licensed by MXP4 to be played in any game within Bopler and makes it easy for MXP4 and third-party game developers to quickly develop new games. MXP4 anticipates regularly releasing new games. Six additional music games are currently in production for Bopler Games.

Fans can play 60 second clips of songs within Bopler up to three times per day for free. To play a full track and enhance the gaming experience, fans can purchase a music “pass” as well as game boosters using “music cash,” an in-game currency that can be purchased with Facebook credits. Fans can also earn “music coins” redeemable for these passes by playing and sharing their games. Each time users purchase a music pass, artists, writers and labels receive royalties.

“With Bopler Games, MXP4 unites the power of two of the most popular categories on Facebook – games and music,” commented Albin Serviant, CEO of MXP4. “While music pages have historically been some of the most visited and ‘liked,’ they’ve not shown nearly the same monetization potential as do games on the site. We believe Bopler will for the first time enable artists to share in social gaming revenues, which are expected to grow to $5 billion by 2015 (Source: Parks Associates, “Social Games: Market Updates,” April 2011).”

With the debut of Bopler Games, MXP4 is the first game company to offer the music industry a scalable, sustainable revenue generator for their existing library as well as a dedicated social gaming promotional channel for newly-released music. Artists who have used MXP4’s past games and applications include Michael Jackson, David Guetta, Enrique Iglesias, Cheryl Cole, Lily Allen, Tiesto, Pink, Britney Spears, the Pet Shop Boys, The Bravery and more than 100 others.

Music and Facebook: Two Great Tastes that Go Great together?

According to rankings from Inside Facebook, music-related pages make up almost 1/3 of Facebook’s most popular pages. Music apps, however, have failed to become similarly popular. In fact, RootMusic is the only one music-related app in the site’s top 50, and that really only shows us what we already know – that music fan pages were very popular on Facebook.

Apps are where money is made on the social network itself, and the music industry needs to learn how to better take advantage of them.

For one, the focus of most music apps is contrary to the site’s core socialness. If we extend our search of Facebook’s most popular apps and look at Spotify and Pandora as examples, the central activity is passive listening. Sure, they have sharing features, but that just takes a second and then the user is done. Without any sort of attractant for users to use Facebook as a basic music player, there’s little incentive for repeat visits or extended use.

Fans love musicians on Facebook, but we need to create more and better apps that leverage the social entertainment aspect of the site before we can deliver a music-app product fans are happy to pay for and not just chat about.

Apps that have proven incredibly popular on Facebook are social casual games. They’re fun, sometimes addictive, and with social as part of their core, they get a lot more play time than other apps. The apps themselves keep users coming back to play again while also encouraging them to share with friends – who will come back and play again.

For music apps to crack Facebook’s top rankings, they need to take on more of the characteristics that keep people engaged for hours. And these apps needn’t be specific to a particular artist or even genre. Keep a look out for how MXP4 is solving this problem in 2011!

MXP4 in partnership with EMI Music establishes a new frontier for music and social gaming

MXP4’s first game release drives a 50% share rate, engages fans for an average of 15 minutes per track

December 20, 2010 – PARIS– MXP4, the first interactive music-powered games provider for social networks, today announced the launch of its first social music gaming application for Facebook called PUMP IT (play with it at http://on.fb.me/gwJFrU) in partnership with EMI Music and based around the music of renowned superstar DJ and producer David Guetta.

MXP4’s interactive music gaming apps allow fans to not just play music, but play with it. The ‘Who’s that Chick?’ PUMP IT game with David Guetta featuring R&B recording artist Rihanna gives Guetta’s Facebook fans a social music gaming experience that encourages repeat visits and viral distribution and also offers the chance to win prizes such as official merchandise, premium subscriptions to Spotify (where available) and the chance to meet David Guetta himself. During the app’s limited beta launch, over 15,000 users actively played with the game for more than 15 minutes per track, with 50% sharing with and competing against friends across the social networking site.

MXP4’s solution allows artists to develop a wide range of social music gaming apps to engage users and add stickiness to their Facebook fan pages. PUMP IT, developed together with EMI Music, is a vibrant, install-based rhythm game that keeps fans coming back by allowing them to uncover more tracks the more they play. Functionality includes score keeping, social play, game and score sharing and more. The built-in ranking system also gives users the chance to get recognized for their super-fan status, displaying the top five scores to both the artist and other fans.

“David Guetta is absolutely committed to his fan-base, and he’s a true leader when it comes to finding new ways to engage and entertain them,” commented Jean Charles Carre, business manager of David Guetta. “MXP4’s interactive music games are a great way for David to connect with and to reward his 13 million-plus Facebook fans and to reward them for their ongoing dedication.”

“EMI has a long history of supporting innovative initiatives that nurture the artist/fan relationship,” stated Guillaume Pech-Gourg, Director of Consumer Strategy, EMI France. “From the beginning, we have been behind the international promotion of David Guetta through social networks, especially Facebook where he now has more than 13 million fans worldwide. Developing one of the first ever social music games with MXP4 was an obvious choice, as it allows David’s fans not only to play his music, but play with it, make it their own and share it with friends.”

“Fans today are interested in doing far more than just listening to music – they want to be social with each other and the artist and they seek active participation instead of just leaning back and consuming,” stated Albin Serviant, CEO of MXP4. “David Guetta is a true leader in this area, and we’re elated to be powering the first social music video game apps that offer him some of the most powerful engagement and viral properties available today. We remain dedicated to continuously developing new games and social features that will give fans the social, interactive and fun experience they’re looking for.”
