[France] Music site Mxp4 is pushing out a new feature called “Max it”, which creates dynamic remixes of tracks in real-time.

Founded in 2007 in Paris, France, MXP4 has done two rounds of funding with Sofinnova Partners and Ventech, reaching €7 million in backing. MXP4 develops interactive music solutions that are changing the music experience for consumers by allowing them to play with the music. The ambition of the company is to completely change the way the music is consumed, creating this new format “mxp’4″.

MXP4 has developed a range of 4 tools to play with the music :

  • Mix it: instruments can be turned on/off to create your own mix
  • Sing it: you can mute the voice and sing the song on your own.
  • Remix it: you can make a mix of all the remixes available for the song
  • Max it: the song is extended in a way it never repeats itself.

With the launch of their new “Max it” feature, MXP4 also announced the launch of the “Max it Editor” which allows artist to create their own interactive music releases (this software is free).

But where is the business model?

Interactive music firm MXP4 has been around for a while, touting its technology that allows songs to be released as one file, that can incorporate multiple versionsof a song. However, it’s just announced its new initiative, Max It, which already has bands like Passion Pit and Basement Jaxx on board. The difference between Max It and MXP4’s existing technology is that it takes individual elements from songs and remixes them in real-time, with the aim being to make the song capable of sounding different every time it’s listened to. They take the form of embeddable widgets that can be played by fans.

There’s also a Max It Editor, which artists and labels can use to create the files themselves, rather than relying on MXP4 to do it for them. Existing MXP4 singles are played with by fans for an average of 9.1 minutes a track, with many clicking through to buy the songs themselves. Passion Pit’s Max It file is a good example, offering the dynamic remixes as well as a bio, photos, video clips, a signup page for the band’s mailing list, buy links and a sharing option to spread the word.
