MXP4 Goes Further into Social Music Gaming

MXP4, the first social music gaming studio, today announced that Xavier Louis will be joining the company as Vice President of Product Marketing. Louis joins from EA’s Playfish, where he served as product management director. In his new position at MXP4, Louis will be responsible for driving adoption and monetization of the company’s interactive social-music gaming technology across social networks such as Facebook.

MXP4’s innovative solutions turn music into engaging casual games. By transforming passive listeners into active users who will be more likely to distribute the music virally and more inclined to make a music-related purchase, the technology creates opportunities for both artists and marketers. During the beta launch of the company’s PUMP IT! Facebook game for David Guetta’s single “Who’s that Chick,” over 500,000 users visited the application (http://bit.ly/evV3dY) and actively played with the game for more than 15 minutes per track, with 50% sharing and competing against friends across the social networking site; some of them playing more than 500 times to win a chance to meet David Guetta himself.

“We are elated to have an industry expert like Xavier join MXP4,” commented Albin Serviant, CEO of MXP4. “With his extensive social gaming experience, he is an obvious choice to spearhead the continued development of our interactive music games.”

“I am looking forward to applying my years of experience in casual gaming to help forge the future of the nascent genre – social music gaming,” comment Xavier Louis. “MXP4’s vision is truly unique, and I am excited to join such a visionary team.”

MXP4

Founded in 2007 with the idea to create a new format for interactive music, MXP4 has developed a remixable and video game like music experience for artists, fans, labels and brands, allowing music fans not only to play the music but play with it. Its proprietary technology is based on an analytic engine which performs a numerical treatment and segmentation of an mp3 track. The solution allows one to turn any MP3 into a casual game, easily embeddable within social networks. Today the company has more than one million plays per month and the growth is driven by a strong viral effect from existing users. The benefit of its offering is improved interaction with the interface (10 minutes spent per track) compared to traditional music sites. Both the ease of integration with social networks and the social gaming potential open the door for strong monetization. Superstar DJ David Guetta (and 150 other artists) is using MXP4’s music game solution to engage his 12m fan base on Facebook. The company is baked by Orkos Capital, Sofinnova Partners and Ventech.

THE GAMIFICATION OF LIFE

IS LIFE JUST A GAME?

CONCEPTUALLY SPEAKING :

Films, tv fiction, books are some of the classic forms of the art of storytelling. Storytelling now includes the growing field of transmedia storytelling which is what brings us all here together in London at Power to the Pixel.

Transmedia storytelling hinges on experience by adding value to a story world and immersion into a deeper engagement with the world and characters.

This excerpt of “Mad Men” deals with nostalgia in the way I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suRDUFpsHus

But something new is happening that makes storytelling be impacted by what is quickly becoming a an all encompassing phenomenon known as gamification where game dynamics are being applied in a million ways to all aspects of what it means to be human, individually or collectively.

The definition of the word is in constant change in Wikipedia.

The gamification process will impact the art of storytelling in a very direct way, because storytelling with embedded social networks, geolocalization and game dynamics in virtual and real dimensions are all being combined in the new interfacing art of EXPERIENCE DESIGN.

For this reason I want to try and brush a general view of what gamification is, why it is happening now and whether it is good or bad for us.
